China Severe Aging Phase: Old Age Population in China is increasing rapidly. By the year 2035, 400 million people over the age of 60 will be in China. There are many challenges for the world’s most populous country. A top health official said on Tuesday that China is aging rapidly and the number of people aged 60 and above continues to grow and will reach 267 million by the end of this year. This is 18.9 percent of the total population.

The health official said that it is estimated that by 2025 the population of elderly people will be above 30 crore and by 2035 it will be 40 crore. Wang Haidong, director of the National Health Commission’s Department of Aging and Health, said that China is aging rapidly.

The official said that the size of China’s senior population and its number in proportion to the total population is expected to peak around 2050. These are major challenges to the provision of public services and to the national social security system.

Birth rate fell for the fifth consecutive year

Let us tell you that the population of China increased from less than 5 million to 1412.26 million last year, as the birth rate has fallen for the fifth consecutive year. This has raised fears of a demographic crisis and its adverse impact on the world’s second largest economy.

China gives green signal to three children policy

The demographic crisis is largely attributed to the decades-old one-child policy, which was scrapped in 2016. After this, China allowed all couples to have two children. Last year China passed an amended population and family planning law, allowing Chinese couples to have up to three children.
